Candidates can enroll in the second-cycle study programme Language Mediation and Translation who:

  • graduated in philological study programmes of the first-cycle in the scope of 180 ECTS, in the study programmes of language and cultural mediation, translation, interpretation of the first-cycle in the scope of 180 ECTS or in an equivalent foreign study programmes;
  • graduated in first-cycle study programmes in the field of Italian, Slovene, English and other philological programmes or translation in the scope of 240 ECTS or in an equivalent foreign study programmes.
  • graduate in study programmes from other professional fields of the first-cycle in the scope of 180 ECTS or an equivalent foreign study programme, and demonstrate their knowledge at the C1 level after the SEJO (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) with a publicly valid document;
  • graduated from a university study programme adopted before 11 June 2004 in the scope of 240 ECTS, in the field of philological study programmes, translation or an equivalent foreign study programme;
  • graduated from a university study programme adopted before 11.6.2004 in the scope of 240 ECTS, from other professional fields or from an equivalent foreign study programme, if the candidate demonstrates knowledge of the language at level C1 after SEJO (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). );
  • Candidates who have completed a comparable study programme abroad and are, in accordance with the law, recognized the right to continue their education in the study programme are also eligible for enrollment.

Subject-specific competences:

With the acquired knowledge, abilities and skills of productive written and oral communication, use of language and knowledge about language, contact culture, translation theories and practice, the student will develop:

  • high level of competence in the field of the profession (linguistic, communicative, cultural and strategic competence) and language skills;
  • knowledge of the sociolinguistic picture of the languages ​​it covers and, in this context, of the status and activities of translation into and out of those languages, with particular emphasis on the mother tongue;
  • knowledge of key emphases from translation theory as a basis for a professional approach to translation and the dilemmas that arise with it;
  • knowledge of reference sources and tools to assist the translator in the work, as well as specific techniques and skills of information retrieval (from book and electronic sources, to contacting experts);
  • knowledge of the process of actual independent translation work (emphasis on context, text type, purpose of translation, relationship to the client, time and material conditions) or work in a translation agency and participation in professional associations, etc .;
  • professional and theoretical basis for continuing studies at the third-cycle;
  • ability to present professional results in the form of publications and in international scientific periodicals and professional works;
  • ability to independently assess results and evaluate and contribute to the development of the profession in individual fields of linguistics and translation.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

A student can progress to the second year if he / she has completed all study obligations of the first year in the amount of 60 ECTS.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

Students who have enrolled in the study programme successfully complete their studies when they complete all the obligations prescribed by the study programme, study practice and prepares and successfully defends a master's thesis and thus collects 120 ECTS.
