Admission requirements Entry conditions:
  • a diploma in the field of Slovene studies from a first-cycle study programme; or
  • a diploma from other professional fields from a first-cycle study programme, if the candidate completes the study obligations that are essential for the continuation of studies before enrollment. Study obligations in the amount of up to 60 credit points (ECTS) are determined by the competent commission of UP FHŠ on the basis of the individual application of the candidate, taking into account the field of previous study. The prescribed obligations may be fulfilled by the candidate during the study at the first-cycle, in further training programmes or other forms of formal education or by taking examinations before enrollment in the master's study programme; or
  • a diploma from other professional fields from a academic higher study programme or specialist study programme after completing professional higher education, adopted before 11 June 2004, if the candidate completes study obligations prior to enrollment, which are essential for the continuation of studies. Study obligations in the amount of up to 60 credit points (ECTS) are determined by the competent commission of UP FHŠ on the basis of the individual application of the candidate, taking into account the field of previous study. The candidate can fulfill the prescribed obligations in further training programmes or other forms of formal education or by taking exams before enrolling in a master's study programme; or
  • a diploma in a comparable study programme abroad, according to which the candidate, in accordance with the law, is granted the right to continue his / her education in the study programme.

Subject-specific competences:

The master's student of the double-major pedagogical study of Slovene studies will strive for communication and relations for:

  • effective communication with students, developing a positive group atmosphere and for good relations with students and among themselves,
  • developing communication skills in the Slovenian language,
  • developing social skills, understanding and mastering the basic procedures and principles of counseling and working with students,
  • a safe and stimulating learning environment in which students feel accepted and diversity is valued and independence and responsibility are promoted,
  • (co) developing clear rules for discipline and classroom behavior,
  • appropriate strategies to deal with inappropriate behavior, aggression and conflict,
  • a positive attitude towards students, while understanding and respecting their social, cultural, linguistic and cultural background,
  • respect and adhere to the ethical framework of its operations.

The master's student of the double-major pedagogical study of Slovene studies will, for effective teaching:

  • master the basic principles and procedures for planning, implementation and evaluation of the learning process,
  • in the concretization of the curriculum, appropriately connect and coordinate the goals, contents, teaching methods and approaches, taking into account modern curricular-didactic knowledge,
  • in the planning and implementation of lessons, take into account the developmental characteristics of students and the laws and factors of successful learning,
  • adapt the lessons to the individual characteristics of the students in their prior knowledge, interests, styles and learning abilities,
  • establish a strong learning environment using a wide repertoire of learning methods and strategies that encourage students' mental activity,
  • efficiently combine individual, group and frontal lessons,
  • use effective ways to promote motivation and develop independent learning strategies in students (learning to learn),
  • properly integrate information and communication technology into lessons and develop information literacy in students,
  • identify students with special needs, adapt the work to their specifics and work with other teachers and professionals,
  • master and use various methods of checking and assessing knowledge and achievements and monitoring students' progress, both in the field of knowledge and learning strategies and social skills,
  • give constructive feedback and communicate learning outcomes appropriately.

The master's student of the double-major pedagogical study of Slovene studies will work with the work and social environment:

  • effectively communicate and cooperate with teachers and other employees at the school (team, project work),
  • work effectively with parents and other people responsible for students,
  • establish a partnership relationship with other schools and institutions in the school environment and with experts in the field of education,
  • know, understand and take into account the institutional framework of the school (legislation).

The master's student of the double-major pedagogical study of Slovene studies will, for his professional development:

  • be able to thoughtfully analyze their pedagogical work and plan their professional development,
  • receive feedback and advice in their professional environment,
  • be acquainted with the modern achievements of sciences important for his professional activity, and will critically and thoughtfully incorporate new findings into his work,
  • take the opportunity for continuous professional development and to update their work,
  • be qualified for constructive participation in research and development projects aimed at improving educational work.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

To progress to the second year, a student must complete study obligations in the amount of at least 54 ECTS from first year subjects, whereby the missing 6 ECTS may not belong to compulsory subjects, but may be internally elective subjects or externally elective subjects.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

When students complete all obligations under the study programme for obtaining an education (collects 114 ECTS by taking exams and study practice and 6 ECTS by preparing a final thesis), students complete the studies by defending the final thesis. By the end of the winter semester of the first year, students choose the topic of the master's thesis and the mentor (among the habilitated holders of all compulsory or elective Slovene subjects or holders of pedagogical subjects). The obligation of the final task includes the preparation of the thesis and its successful public defense.

During the study, students must collect 60 ECTS with subjects from the pedagogical field.
After successfully defending the final thesis, students receive a diploma, which is a public document. An integral part of the diploma is the "Diploma Supplement".
