Learning outcomes:
The qualification holder will be able to:
  • go beyond a Eurocentric understanding of the world,
  • work autonomously in a Slovene-Japanese interlingual and intercultural environment,
  • demonstrate passive and, to a lesser extent, active knowledge of characters, vocabulary and grammatical patterns at approximately the level of the stage 1 standard examination in Japanese as a foreign language (Nihongo nouryoku siken 1 kyu), i.e. use around 10,000 of the most common words (of which around 50% actively) and around 2,000 characters used to write these words (of which around 1,200 actively), and all basic grammatical structures and patterns of modern Japanese,
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge of and apply the principles of using suitable forms of Japanese in various social contexts,
  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of texts in modern language on general social and popular science topics,
  • translate more complex texts from Japanese into Slovene,
  • undertake interlingual mediation and, in the event of having completed course units in a relevant subject, consecutive interpreting between Slovene and Japanese,
  • use ICT in connection with Japanese: computer processing of texts, internet, electronic dictionaries,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the basics of teaching Japanese as a starting point for a later teaching specialisation (in the event of having completed course units in a relevant subject),
  • demonstrate knowledge of the principal characteristics of the structure of Japanese society and the principal characteristics of Japanese culture and tradition via analysis of systematically selected media and specialist texts.

Assesment and completion:
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress to the second year of the programme, students must have completed course units totalling 90% of the credits prescribed by the curriculum for the individual year (i.e. 54 out of 60 credits).

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme and individual subject syllabuses, for a total of 60 credits. Since this is a two-subject study programme, in order to complete the overall programme students must also complete all course units in the other discipline, amounting to 60 credits, for a total of 120 credits.
