Learning outcomes:

Qualification holders are qualified to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of specialised legal knowledge in the field of the selected topic of the doctoral dissertation,
  • undertake in-depth theoretical study of topics in the field that are tied to the selected topic of the doctoral dissertation,
  • promote a value system that is the basis of all processes of legal decision-making,
  • use various research methods,
  • use various methods of interpretation to interpret legal texts,
  • use deductive legal reasoning and argument,
  • communicate effectively orally and in writing on legal subjects,
  • carry out basic research and locate legal resources,
  • encourage socially responsible thinking and demonstrate a critical attitude towards developments in society,
  • encourage the highest standards of ethics within the legal profession.

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must have completed at least 45 ECTS credits and submitted an outline of their doctoral dissertation. In order to progress from the second year to the third year, students must have completed all first-year course units for a total of 60 ECTS credits, successfully completed the first doctoral seminar (5 ECTS credits) and obtained the approval of the university senate for the subject of their doctoral dissertation. 

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

In order to complete the programme, students must pass all examinations in compulsory and elective subjects, complete both doctoral seminars, publish at least one scholarly article in a domestic or foreign journal and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation, for a total of 180 ECTS credits.
