Qualification holders are qualified to:

- demonstrate in-depth understanding of theoretical and methodological concepts,
- demonstrate mastery of relevant research methods,
- identify, analyse, synthesise and anticipate legal solutions in the preparation of scholarly work,
- apply research methods in the preparation of research,
- demonstrate autonomy in research and use critical judgement when making decisions,
- independently apply acquired theoretical knowledge to solve problems in practice,
- formulate (draw up) legal regulations in the context of expert groups and lead expert groups in the drawing up of legal regulations,
- develop communication skills and expertise, in particular constant communication in the international environment,
- analyse comparative legal resources,
- work in project groups and show cooperativeness,
- demonstrate a capacity for ethical reflection and a deep commitment to professional ethics,
- work and create in an international environment,
- act as mentor to younger colleagues at institutes, universities, companies, etc.,

- resolve the most complex legal problems by testing and improving known solutions,
- resolve the most complex legal problems or deal theoretically with the most complex legal problems in the fields of core legal disciplines, civil law, economic law, criminal law, financial law and public law,

- produce a scholarly work using the appropriate research methodology (scholarly articles, monographs),
- publish in national and international professional publications,
- communicate knowledge to other users of the law in the form of lectures, expert appraisals and advice,
- demonstrate knowledge of and place new information and interpretations from the field of law in the context of the core legal discipline,
- demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of the foundation, dogmatics and history of the development of a specific legal discipline,
- demonstrate understanding of the methods of critical analysis and the development of theories and apply them in the development of new knowledge and in addressing of specific problems,
- use information and communication technology intensively and constantly,
- demonstrate in-depth understanding of theoretical and methodological concepts,
- independently develop new knowledge,

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must pass the prescribed examinations in the subject Law, Ethics and Nomotechnics (10 ECTS credits) and complete course units from Individual Research I (30 ECTS credits), for a total of 40 ECTS credits. In order to progress from the second year to the third year, students must have completed prescribed first-year course units (60 ECTS credits), Individual Research II and passed examinations in second-year subjects consisting of 20 ECTS.
In order to successfully complete the programme, students must complete all course units, for a total of 180 ECTS credits (pass all examinations prescribed by the third-cycle study programme in Law, and write and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation).
