Qualification holders are qualified to:

- demonstrate diligence and preciseness in working with resources,
- perform advanced analysis and synthesis and envisage solutions and consequences,
- master research methods, procedures and processes, develop critical and self-critical assessment,
- undertake independent scientific work,
- develop communication skills, with an emphasis on an international legal environment,
- demonstrate a capacity for ethical reflection and a commitment to professional ethics,
- critically analyse social processes,
- integrate various professional disciplines with the aim of attaining law-related objectives,
- understand the importance of a national multicultural image in the world and in Europe and handle cultural differences and national legal dilemmas,
(subject-specific competences)
- demonstrate extensive familiarity with legal and other resources in the field of the dissertation,
- demonstrate mastery of special research methods and procedures in the field of the social sciences,
- apply research methods to the addressing of specific international or diplomatic problems,
- integrate knowledge from various fields of international relations and diplomacy, including interdisciplinary fields, depending on the selected topic,
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge in a narrow international and diplomatic field,
- place new information and interpretations in the context of development of the profession in the field of international relations and diplomacy,
- use information and communication technologies and systems,
- critically select principles for solving specific work problems within a legal environment.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must obtain approval of their doctoral dissertation topic. In order to progress from the second year to the third year, students must successfully defend a draft doctoral dissertation proposal.
In order to complete the programme students must:
- successfully complete two seminars,
- successfully defend a doctoral dissertation proposal with testing of knowledge from compulsory subjects,
- publish a scholarly paper or participate actively in an academic conference,
- achieve a passing grade for the dissertation and defended successfully.
