Qualification holders are qualified to:
(general competences)
- carry out creative and independent research in one of the fields covered by the doctoral programme in Biosciences,
- identify fundamental scientific problems,
- address complex user-oriented tasks,
- lead or coordinate research projects,
- present their results to the general public,
- communicate with experts from other fields within bioscience and with experts from other scientific fields,
(subject-specific competences)
- undertake scientific and professional work at the highest level in one of the following fields: agronomy, biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, economics of natural resources, horticulture, landscape architecture, wood and biocomposites, nanosciences, nutrition, technical systems in bioengineering, management of forest ecosystems, conservation of natural heritage, cell science, animal science and food science,
- make expert assessments of and autonomously address the most complex questions in the above fields,
- undertake interdisciplinary work and transfer knowledge into everyday practice.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must have completed course units consisting of at least 45 credits; in order to progress from the second year to the third year, students must have completed all first- and second-year course units including: all examinations from the first and second years of the doctoral programme, individual research consisting of a total of 70 credits, submission of an application for approval of the topic and title of the doctoral dissertation by the start of the summer semester in the second year, and, before enrolment in the third year, a successful presentation of the dissertation topic to the members of the panel responsible for evaluating the topic and title of the dissertation or submission to this panel of proof of a suitable scholarly publication of which the candidate is a co-author or the lead author, where the work directly relates to the candidate's doctoral dissertation.
In order to complete the programme, students must successfully complete all course units prescribed by the programme, enrol in all three years of the doctoral programme and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation.
