 (subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate mastery of vocabulary, grammatical patterns and characters at approximately the level of the stage 2 standard examination in Japanese as a foreign language (Nihongo nouryoku siken 2 kyu) (i.e. passively use around 6,000 of the most common words and 4,000 of them actively, have passive knowledge of around 1,450 characters used to write these words and active knowledge of 1,000 characters),
  • use both syllabic forms of writing: hiragana and katakana,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental principles of the use of Japanese in various social contexts at various levels of formality,
  • demonstrate understanding of texts on general social and popular science topics,
  • translate simple texts from Japanese into Slovene,
  • undertake simple interlingual mediation between Slovene and Japanese,
  • use information and communication technologies in connection to Japanese: computer processing of texts, internet and electronic dictionaries,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental characteristics of the Japanese culture and the structure of the Japanese society.

 

Assesment and completion:

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Progress:

Conditions for progression from year to year - The conditions for progression according to the study programme are harmonized with Article 151 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana. To move to the second year of the programme, the student must complete the study obligations to the extent that he / she achieves 90 percent of the ECTS prescribed by the syllabus (54 out of 60 ECTS) for an individual year. To progress to the third year of the university double-major study programme Japonology, the student must complete the study obligations for the second year to the extent that he achieves 90 percent of the ECTS prescribed by the syllabus (54 ECTS out of 60 ECTS) of the second year, together with the total obligations 1. year (60 ECTS) means 114 ECTS collected.

Conditions for obtaining a public document:

To complete the double-major study, students must complete all obligations specified in the study programme and curricula of individual subjects, in the total amount of 90 ECTS. However, the entire study is completed only after the student has completed all the obligations in both selected disciplines, as determined by the study programmes and curricula of individual subjects, in the total amount of 180 ECTS.

In the last year of study, the student prepares an appropriate diploma thesis. The defense of the diploma thesis before a three-member commission of teachers from the Department of Asian and African Studies includes:

  • presentation of the diploma thesis in Japanese and
  • answers to questions in Japanese and Slovenian.

The diploma thesis, together with the defense, is evaluated with 3 ECTS.
