Qualification holders are qualified to:

  • think analytically, in a manner that enables participation in interdisciplinary groups for the study and addressing of environmental protection problems,
  • address technical problems by autonomously seeking out sources of knowledge and applying research methods in the field of study and environmental protection,
  • critically evaluate the results of research,
  • take part in interdisciplinary group work,
  • communicate and present research results to the public at home and abroad,

(subject-specific competences)

  • establish the state and quality of the environment,
  • study and assess environmental impacts and associated risks,
  • research phenomena in the environment,
  • plan strategies and technologies to reduce environmental impacts.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to enrol in the second year, students must have completed a compulsory seminar and research consisting of 30 credits. In the second year students submit a request for approval of the dissertation topic. In order to enrol in the third year, students must obtain a positive grade for research completed to date (60 credits in total) from their supervisor.

In order to complete the programme, students must pass all examinations, complete the seminar prescribed by the programme and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation.
