Qualification holders are qualified to:
- demonstrate mastery of research methods, procedures and processes in the field of the social sciences and formulate new knowledge that represents a relevant contribution to the development of science,
- innovatively apply knowledge from various disciplinary fields in the addressing of specific research problems in individual social science fields,
- pursue independent research and development work and lead a research group,
- interpret and present the scientific results obtained in the form of publication in an international scientific periodical,
- ensure the quality of professional work through autonomy, criticism/self-criticism, reflection/self-reflection and evaluation/self-evaluation in professional work and demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics.
Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress from the first year to the second year, students must complete at least 30 first-year credits from course units A, B or C, select a supervisor and, where appropriate, a co-supervisor approved by the Faculty of Information Studies senate, and submit a doctoral dissertation proposal, which must be assessed as adequate.
In order to progress from the second year to the third year, candidates must have completed all first-year course units amounting to 60 credits and individual work from the second year in the amount of 60 credits.
In order to complete the study programme students must complete all course units prescribed by the programme and publish one scholarly article in a journal abstracted in the SCI, SSCI/SCIE or A&HCI, or two scholarly articles in international scholarly journals abstracted in the IBSS, CSA Sociological Abstract, CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstract, CSA PAIS International, International Political Science Abstract, LISA, STMA, SCOPUS, COMPENDEX, or other equivalent international databases important for the fields developed by the faculty, from the field of the topic of the doctoral dissertation (the scholarly article must be published in one of the foreign languages).
In order to complete the programme, students must complete all 180 credits prescribed by the study programme and prepare and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation.
