Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
To progress to the second year, a student must complete study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS credits from the first year.
In the second year, the student submits an application for approval of the dissertation topic.
To progress to the third year, a student must complete study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS credits from the second year.
The condition for progression to the third year is therefore collected 120 ECTS.
In the third year, the student devotes himself entirely to research part III (30 ECTS), which results in the successful defense of a doctoral dissertation (30 ECTS). (For a 3-year study programme.)
In the third year, the student devotes himself entirely to research part III (60 ECTS). (For a 4-year study programme.)
The condition for progression to the fourth year is all completed obligations from the first three years (180ECTS).
The condition for completing the study is the completion of all exams and all obligations in all subjects according to the syllabus and the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation, for which the student collects 240 ECTS.
