Admission requirements

Candidates who have completed the following can enroll in the doctoral study programme Physics:

  • Second level study programme;
  • Current study programme for obtaining a university education;
  • Uniform master's degree if it lasted five years and is valued at 300 credit points;
  • Previous study programmes for obtaining a specialization and have previously completed a professional higher programme if they have completed additional study obligations in the range of 30 to 60 credit points;
  • Education abroad, equivalent to the aforementioned programmes.

Qualification holders are qualified to:

General competences:

  • independent project work
  • knowledge of the properties of different materials

  • mastering the theoretical foundations of solid state physics or high energy physics
  • ability to work in vacuum laboratories

  • mastery of complex synchrotron measuring procedures
  • mastery of complex spectroscopies
  • participation in international collaborations in the field of astrophysics and elementary particle physics
  • writing international scientific papers

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

To progress to the second year, a student must complete study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS credits from the first year.

In the second year, the student submits an application for approval of the dissertation topic.

To progress  to the third year, a student must complete study obligations in the amount of 60 ECTS credits from the second year.

The condition for progression to the third year is therefore collected 120 ECTS.

In the third year, the student devotes himself entirely to research part III (30 ECTS), which results in the successful defense of a doctoral dissertation (30 ECTS). (For a 3-year study programme.)

In the third year, the student devotes himself entirely to research part III (60 ECTS). (For a 4-year study programme.)

The condition for progression to the fourth year is all completed obligations from the first three years (180ECTS).

The condition for completing the study is the completion of all exams and all obligations in all subjects according to the syllabus and the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation, for which the student collects 240 ECTS.
