Admission requirements

In accordance with Articles 16 and 38a of the Higher Education Act, candidates can enroll in the doctoral programme of the third level of Applied Kinesiology who have graduated from:

  • a second-cycle study programme,
  • study programmes for obtaining a university education, adopted before 11 June 2004 in the relevant professional field (applied kinesiology, sports, medicine and health care).
  • previous study programmes for the acquisition of specialization, which previously completed the professional higher programme, adopted before 11 June 2004; for enrollment in doctoral study programs of the third level, the relevant member body, on the proposal of the coordinator of the field responsible for doctoral studies, determines study obligations in the range of 30 to 60 credit points,
  • study programs for the acquisition of a master's degree in science or specialization after the completion of the study programme for the acquisition of a university education, adopted before 11 June 2004; for enrollment in third-cycle doctoral study programmes, the relevant member body, on the proposal of the field coordinator responsible for doctoral studies, recognizes study obligations in the amount of at least 60 credit points.
  • study programmes educating for professions regulated by EU directives or other uniform master's study programmes valued at 300 ECTS credits,
  • graduates of other domestic and foreign universities in accordance with the prescribed conditions as apply to students of the Republic of Slovenia. The equivalence of previously acquired education abroad is established in the procedure of recognition of foreign education for continuing education in accordance with the law.

  • Acquisition of communication skills, especially constant communication in the international environment, publication of various scientific and professional texts;
  • Ability to critically analyze the latest achievements in the broader field of kinesiology and the results of their own research work and their application in practice;

  • Efficiency in selecting available resources: own creative intellectual ability, available intellectual capital of employees, other tangible and intangible resources;
  • Autonomy in their scientific research work and the ability to work in teams in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research groups;

Subject specific competences:

  • Organizational, content, methodological and other necessary knowledge in their specific research and work field of applied kinesiology and related disciplines;
  • Mastering advanced methodological and technological approaches to perform a detailed analysis of specific living environments and preparation of integrated protocols for optimizing the efficiency of individual performance;
  • Ability to combine scientific issues and work program in terms of project work;
  • Ability to theoretically model and predict a wide variety of situations and responses in kinesiology;
  • Ability to interdisciplinary integrate knowledge of sciences intertwined with kinesiology;
  • Ability to scientifically base the planning and implementation of strategies for maintaining and protecting health;
  • Mastering analytical research tools that enable the study of potential abnormalities in the functioning of certain organ systems or damage to humans or their overall integrity;
  • In-depth understanding required to perform measurements and critically interpret the human body's responses to exercise, diet, and the environment from a variety of perspectives;
  • Understanding of modern data processing procedures for their modeling;
  • Ability to comprehensively address research problems in kinesiology;
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic and scientific research results related to human physiological responses;
  • Ability to internationally disseminate research results.

AMEU - ECM adopted the Rules on the examination and assessment of knowledge at the Management Board on 15 April 2010 and the amendments on 16 August 2013. The policy is published on the intranet page, which is accessible to students and teachers with a personal username and password. The method of assessment in an individual subject is also included in the curricula. The heads of the programmes are responsible for the consistent application of the provisions of the Rules on the examination and assessment of knowledge, which determine the criteria and methods for the examination and assessment of students' learning outcomes. Students are introduced to the criteria at the beginning of the academic year. Information is also constantly available in the Office for Academic Affairs. Students' knowledge is assessed through the ECTS grading scale and in accordance with the curriculum. The conditions for advancement are published on the AMEU - ECM website and are in accordance with the accredited study programme.

The obligations of students in an individual subject are defined in the curricula and evaluated in ECTS, where 1 ECTS represents 30 hours of student work.

Progression to a higher year:

  • students can progress to the second year upon successful completion of both compulsory courses.
  • To progress to the third year, students must pass 2 out of 3 elective courses and issue and obtain approval for the topic of the doctoral thesis.

In order to complete the study, it is necessary to complete all study obligations provided for in the study programme and subject curricula, and to prepare and defend a doctoral thesis. This collects 180 credits from the student.
