The qualification holder will be able to:

- combine the methodology of intercultural studies and translation studies with the methodology of another field in order to obtain new research results.

- demonstrate proficiency in both English and Slovene orthography and orthoepy,
- demonstrate mastery and understanding of morphemic and morphosyntactic categories and knowledge of the text syntax of both languages,
- demonstrate understanding of word-formational, interlexemic and phraseological relationships in English and Slovene from the point of view of new theoretical approaches in linguistics,
- demonstrate knowledge of older and modern currents in English and Slovene literature,
- autonomously keep abreast of current linguistic and literary phenomena and place them in the context of already acquired knowledge of both languages,
- publicly engage in promoting a culture of writing and reading in Slovene,
- demonstrate knowledge of characteristics in the field of the history, culture, media, education and economy of the English-speaking world and in Slovenia,
- contrastively analyse texts and phenomena on the basis of already acquired knowledge of the above fields from an intercultural perspective,
- justify possible translations in the English-Slovene language pair from the point of view of theoretical models in translation studies,
- find and use parallel texts,
- create glossaries,
- use electronic aids and manuals,
- translate texts of medium difficulty from various fields from English to Slovene on the basis of the functional approach,
- translate less complex texts from Slovene to English on the basis of the functional approach,
- prepare alternative translations,
- justify existing and possible literary translations in the Slovene-English language pair on the basis of the expressive approach,
- translate less complex and medium-difficulty literary texts from Slovene to English on the basis of identification of the fundamental stylistic characteristics of texts,
- demonstrate knowledge of the strategies and methods of abbreviation and adaptation in subtitling and dubbing,
- demonstrate knowledge of the basic techniques of consecutive, simultaneous and whispered interpreting,
- demonstrate knowledge of note-taking technique for consecutive interpreting,
- undertake consecutive, simultaneous and whispered interpreting of less complex texts,
- demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental principles and aims of the most important international organisations,
- autonomously keep abreast of current world events and place international organisations into this context,
- demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of professional ethics and develop a sense for aesthetic and ethical values in the discipline,
- demonstrate knowledge of normal professional practice, conditions for self-employment and professional associations,
- demonstrate knowledge of general business communication,
- develop professional awareness and familiarity with the role of the professional interlingual consultant and translator.
Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
In order to progress to the second year, students must have completed at least 24 credits from the proposed study programme and a specific number of credits envisaged by the other part of the two-subject study programme. In order to progress to the third year, students must have completed at least 24 credits from the proposed study programme and a specific number of credits envisaged by the other part of the two-subject study programme, and have passed all first-year examinations.
Second-cycle master's study programmes (SQF level 8)
In order to complete a two-subject study programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the programme in both parts of the two-subject study programme for a total of at least 180 credits (90 credits in each part of the two-subject study programme).
