Admission requirements
  • A completed academic higher education programme in the field of education, with an average achieved result of at least “very good” (8) from studies, and a grade of at least “very good” (8) on the undergraduate thesis; if a candidate does not achieve the required results, they must pass a differential examination in the subjects of education methodology, the history of education and general adult education prior to enrolment; or
  • any other completed academic higher education programme with the required results stated in the first indent, if a candidate passes a differential examination from the fields of educational methodology, the history of education and general adult education prior to enrolment. 
Candidates must demonstrate active knowledge of one foreign language and passive knowledge of another.

Qualification holders  will be able to: 
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge of the common theoretical and methodological bases of educational sciences (pedagogy and adult education),
  • demonstrate broad and advanced knowledge of individual disciplines of pedagogy and adult educational sciences,
  • understand the phenomenology of the school, education, teaching and learning,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the methodology of scientific research,
  • resolve problems through the application of scientific methods,
  • express substantive methodological knowledge, 
  • apply research procedures, strategies, methods and techniques in an original manner,
  • make more global interpretations of phenomena in educational sciences (pedagogy and adult education),
  • perform independent theoretical, empirical and developmental research of education in school-based and non-school-based forms,
  • keep abreast of and develop theoretical and specialist literature in own field,
  • develop the capacity to lead technical-innovative projects and also research projects,
  • develop the capacity for autonomous specialist work and work in an (international) group,
  • communicate with colleagues and experts in multidisciplinary contexts,
  • develop professional ethical responsibility,
  • develop the capacity for own professional development and the development of the discipline.

 

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

 

Students must pass at least two examinations from an individual programme to progress to the second year of a master’s degree programme.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF, level 10)

Students must successfully meet all requirements and defend a positively assessed master’s thesis to complete their studies. Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.
